Multiple Essentials

When Todd and I found out we were having twins, we were shocked, to say the least. Thankfully, I joined a few Facebook groups and other parents of multiples shared some items that worked for them.  From there, we were able to compile our own list and try out some items. Although, what works for one family does not always work for another, here is a basic list of our most valued items:

Rock N Play Sleeper:

This was, by far, the best item we had!  The boys each had one and slept in them, in our room for the first month or so. When we moved them to their cribs, we still used the Rock N Plays for the living room, family room, etc.  They are completely portable and fold down  pretty compactly with the push of a button. Because of this, they were so easy to transport from room to room, as well as other places, such as a grandparent’s house.  The best part about these is that they are on a slight incline, which is amazing for babies with reflux.  We actually used a Rock N Play with Taylor too, but it took a while for us to find out about it.  Reflux babies can’t (or shouldn’t) sleep flat.  The incline helps keep the acid at bay, and keeps the baby much more comfortable.  I could rave about these all day.  It is the first product I recommend to any new parent! They are made by Fisher Price and can be found here or at most retailers that carry baby products.

Citi Mini Double Stroller:

This is definitely another favorite, and something I still use today.  I wanted a stroller that was comfortable, lightweight, and easy to maneuver.  These things are almost impossible to get in a double stroller, but this one is a winner.  It fits through most, standard doors.  I have actually only had an issue with it not fitting in older buildings with more narrow doorways.  We tried out a few of the front / back strollers, but I found them much more difficult to use as they were so long!  This maneuvers very easily, folds up nicely to fit in the back of my car, and the boys are comfortable.  It has adjustable straps, reclining seats, and pockets / basket storage for any things you need to bring along.  The price tag is pretty hefty, but we luckily got a used one in very good condition from another twin mom.  I would definitely recommend looking for a used one if this is out of your budget. If not, you can find it here.

Baby Monitor:

Since our house is not huge, we debated with not having a monitor at all.  Let me tell you, the peace of mind they bring you is worth it.  It is so nice to be able to peek in on the little ones without disturbing them.  For a while, whenever we opened the bedroom door, one of the boys would pop their head up and be awake, so this was wonderful.  I know twin moms who have two cameras (one over each crib) but we have found that one camera has served the purpose in the boys’ small bedroom.  I am able to move the camera throughout the room with the touch of a button.  I can see them, hear them, and talk to them (if needed).  This is the one we have (the model might be slightly older) and it has worked out well.

Baby Brezza Formula Machine:

This item is definitely a luxury and not a necessity, but we got so much use out of it that its definitely worth mentioning. Also, it was gifted to us by my parents, so it was even more of a luxury. Our boys were formula fed, and on a thick, high caloric formula that helped fill their bellies and helped them with reflux.  Although you might not think making bottles is difficult, it is time consuming and when you have two hungry, screaming babies, this is helpful.  The powdered formula goes in the top, and you fill the side with filtered water.  At the push of a button, you have a warm bottle.  Magic.

Other items that we used often and made life easier were:

  • Sleep sacks – They kept the babies warm all night without the use of blankets
  • Onesies with snaps – easy on, easy off
  • Aquaphor – We used this for the diaper area, minor cuts / scrapes, and hydrating the skin.
  • Carseats – We used Graco Click-Connect infant seats, which were wonderful. When the boys were 7 months old, we moved to Britax convertible car seats and still use them today.
