It happened again. I opened my mouth too soon and said that we were all feeling healthy and doing well. On Wednesday night, Joseph was just not himself. He was helping Todd and Jackson clean the playroom and was sent upstairs for dinner since he did more than his fair share and was getting off on good behavior while brother finished the job. He went up the stairs and screamed for his brother. I thought it was some twin-purgatory thing and he just wanted his brother to stop cleaning too, but as it turns out, he was sick and the boys truly find comfort in each other. He cried through dinner, didn’t eat, and clung to me all night. Just as we were getting ready for pajamas and bed, he vomitted all over me. Thankfully, my clothing and blanket suffered the brunt of the trauma. Nothing a little (or a lot) of bleach can’t handle. My poor guy was really not himself today. It was a long-ish night and he was exhausted. After a long nap, he seemed to be in a much better mood and even had an appetite. I am not sure how he woke up happy, especially since his twin woke him up twice during nap time. The first time, Jackson took Joseph’s blanket and steam rolled him out of bed yelling “Wake up, brother!” Thankfully, this was only about ten minutes into nap time, so he was able to go back to sleep. When they had taken about a two and a half hour nap (unheard of), Jackson again stood over Joseph and in the sweetest voice said “Wake up, Joseph. Wake up baby boy!” I wasn’t even mad because I wanted them up so they would sleep tonight anyway. Jackson has been so sweet and accommodating to his brother since he has been ill. He mimics my words and actions and covers Joseph with the blanket, encourages him to take sips of water, and rubs his hair all the while saying “It’s okay baby.” It really is adorable.
Taylor has been keeping spirits up around here with some more of her amazing humor. Jackson was literally in her face trying to get her to look at the watch he had on, and she really couldn’t care less. I encouraged her to pay attention to him for a moment, and this is the conversation that ensued:
T: Yeah, buddy. I see it.
J: See the lights on my watch?
T: Yeah, it lights up just like your balls do. Can I go watch tv now?
As my friend Anneliese said, “mic-drop.” Taylor really has a way with words. She delivered her wonderfully timed one-liner and went right back to the television show she was watching.
Since I let the kids watch way more TV today than I care to admit (since I was busy bleaching everything in the house…again), I tried to at least keep it somewhat educational. If they are going to look like Zombies staring at a flat screen, at least I can make them learn in the process. We incorporated animals into one of the mind-numbing shows they were watching. We talked about types of animals / favorite animals, and Taylor told me that she really loves giraffes because she knows they are my favorite. She decided that she wants to go to the zoo to watch two giraffes kissing, but she can’t go yet because she doesn’t have binoculars and “zoo clothes.” I later found out that zoo clothes are khaki shorts. She also apparently watched something about Australia and now thinks that’s their national uniform down there. During our giraffe conversation, I told her she was absolutely correct and that Mommy does really love giraffes. Jackson put his chubby little hands on my knees and said “No, Mama. You love me! You love me, okay?” These kids seriously make me smile so hard – even on the tough days.

In other Taylor related funnies, she started this new thing that whenever Todd burps, she turns around, points at him and says “Go in time out!” with a very stern face. I am not sure where she got that from, but it makes us laugh every single time. She’s also apparently sick (pun intended) of our illnesses and allergies. She looked at Todd the other night after one of his sneeze attacks and said “Bless you, Daddy. But uh, are you almost done sneezing so I can stop saying bless you to you?”
I hope everyone has a healthy, fun weekend. We are sure hoping for one over here. Also, if anyone has any nausea tips for toddlers (non medicine), I would love to hear them so I have something useful for next time.
